Radiator Painting in Wokingham

Wokingham Painters provide radiator painting covering Wokingham and the surrounding Berkshire villages.
- Cast iron and steel radiator refinishing
- Heat-resistant paint formulas
- Colour matching and custom finishes
- Original and replacement radiator preparation
Winnersh 1960s and early 1970s properties sometimes retain original single-panel steel radiators. The factory finish has oxidised and discoloured over decades, and painting over without a specialist metal primer and radiator enamel leads to peeling within one heating season. Radiator painting is part of our full interior painting service across Wokingham and the surrounding villages.

Radiator Painting Services
Cast Iron Radiators
Cast iron radiators are common in period properties. The cast surface is more porous than modern steel and requires thorough prep.
We brush-clean the surface, degrease with a specialist solution, and apply a specialist metal primer before a heat-resistant topcoat. Two coats are standard.
Steel Panel Radiators
Modern steel panel radiators are prone to rust if the factory finish is damaged. We assess the existing finish, prime bare areas, and apply heat-resistant paint.
Newer radiators often have smoother surfaces that require less aggressive prep than older cast iron units.
Column Radiators
Column radiators have high surface area and complex geometry. Painting requires attention to all sides and the junctions between sections.
We remove radiators where possible to access all sides. Where removal is not practical, we paint in place with extended brush work.
Heat-Resistant Paint Formula
Standard household paint peels when exposed to radiator heat. We use specialist heat-resistant paint formulated to withstand sustained temperatures up to 80 to 100 degrees Celsius.
This paint resists yellowing, chipping, and discolouration that ordinary paint exhibits on heated surfaces.

Here’s How It Works
1. Radiator condition assessment
We visit and assess each radiator, note any rust or existing paint damage, and measure surface area.
2. Surface preparation
Radiators are cleaned, degreased, and any rust is removed. Existing paint is sanded to dull the surface. Bare metal is exposed where necessary.
3. Priming
A specialist metal primer is applied. This bonds to the metal surface and provides adhesion for the topcoat.
4. Heat-resistant paint application
Two coats of heat-resistant paint are applied. Each coat is allowed to cure fully before the next is applied. Cure time is extended on radiators as heat-resistant paint cures harder and slower than standard emulsion.
5. Reinstatement and testing
Radiators are tested for heat operation and checked for drips or runs. We confirm colour matching and finish quality before closing the job.

Radiator Painting Costs in Wokingham
Prices below are estimates only. Every radiator is different. Call 0118 207 2600 for a precise quote.

Cost Overview
Radiator painting typically costs between £80 and £140 per radiator, including prep, priming, and two finish coats of heat-resistant paint.
Cost Overview
Three things drive the price:
What Affects the Price
- Radiator size and type. Single-panel radiators cost less than column or multi-section radiators. Larger surface areas take longer to prep and paint.
- Condition and rust level. Radiators with significant rust require more aggressive prep and additional primer coats.
- Removal requirements. Radiators removed from the wall can be painted on all sides more thoroughly. In-situ painting is less labour-intensive but less thorough.
Typical Ranges
Typical ranges:
Typical Ranges
